Job description

Role Description:


  • We are looking for a Lead Engineer HVDC & HVAC Substations to work within our Business Area Wind, Offshore, Engineering.
  • As the Lead Engineer for Offshore Substations at our client's Business Area Wind, Offshore, Engineering, you will lead the technological aspects, key topics, and team involved in HVDC and HVAC systems for offshore substations.
  • Your responsibilities include ensuring efficient and reliable operation of these systems, meeting industry standards and our objectives.
  • This role requires a strong technical background, leadership skills, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Project Delivery & Engineering is the engine room of our offshore Business Unit, transforming our pipeline into high-performing assets through a mix of project execution excellence and a strong engineering backbone serving the entire asset lifecycle.
  • Working within the Substations team of Electrical Infrastructure, you will use your strong technical and communication skills to lead Substations HVDC & HVAC Technology together with a team of Technical Authorities and support functions to deliver best-in-class electrical assets from concept to our operational fleet.


Responsibilities:


  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and expertise in the design, implementation, and operation of HVDC and HVAC systems for offshore substations across the life cycle.
  • Project Management: Lead and coordinate engineering activities related to HVDC and HVAC systems, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
  • Lifecycle Management & Maintenance Strategy: Lead the entire lifecycle and maintenance Strategy of HVDC and HVAC systems for offshore substations, from business case development to operations and maintenance.
  • Leadership: Lead a team of Primary and Secondary Technology Experts, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical support. Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Technology Development: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to HVDC and HVAC systems. Identify opportunities for technology development and improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as contractors, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and industry experts, to ensure effective communication, alignment, and successful project outcomes.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with HVDC and HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical specifications, engineering reports, and other relevant documentation. Provide regular progress updates and reports to management.


Location:


  • Choice of our client locations at Hamburg, London, Kolding, or Amsterdam.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in the design, implementation, and operation of HVDC and HVAC offshore substations.
  • Strong knowledge of HVDC and HVAC technologies, including equipment selection, system integration, and protection schemes for Offshore Substations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in managing technical teams.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including planning, resource allocation, and risk assessment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to HVDC and HVAC offshore substations.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working in the renewable energy sector, particularly with offshore wind farms.
  • Professional certifications related to HVDC and HVAC systems.
