This job will require at least 60% travel across SSA sites.&nbsp; Key ResponsibilitiesResearch and Analysis: Conduct thorough needs analysis to identify training requirements specific to the Commercial and Logistics teams. The RoleThis role is responsible for managing the efficient storage, handling, and optimization of quays, yards, and landside operations to ensure seamless cargo flow. Responsible for leading port and yard activities, coordinating with customs, quarantine authorities, stevedores, and shipping lines to facilitate smooth and timely cargo transitions. Additionally, they supervise vessel planning, optimize operational processes, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and overall port performance. Key Responsibilities• Plan, coordinate, and oversee all port and yard operations, including vessel berthing, cargo handling, storage, and dispatch.&nbsp;• Optimize terminal capacity, yard planning, and workflow to ensure smooth and cost-effective cargo transitions.&nbsp;• Implement best practices to minimize losses, damages, and delays while maintaining high service standards.&nbsp;• Supervise vessel planning activities to ensure efficient ship turnaround times.&nbsp;• Ensure optimal allocation and utilization of labour, cargo-handling equipment, and other operational resources.&nbsp;• Monitor maintenance schedules and operational readiness of equipment, ensuring minimal downtime.&nbsp;• Identify and recommend technological advancements and process improvements to enhance efficiency.&nbsp;• Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure infrastructure readiness and operational continuity.&nbsp;• Ensure and enforce adherence to legislative, global and local maritime, safety, and environmental regulations.&nbsp;• Implement and oversee compliance with workplace health, safety, and fatal risk standards to minimize operational risks.&nbsp;• Ensure security protocols are in place for cargo handling, vessel operations, and access control.&nbsp;• Collaborate with customs, quarantine authorities, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth and compliant port operations.&nbsp;• Investigate incidents and implement corrective measures to improve safety performance.&nbsp;• Contribute to the development and management of the operational budget, ensuring cost control while optimizing productivity.&nbsp;• Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive operational efficiency.&nbsp;• Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising service quality or operational effectiveness.&nbsp;• Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, stevedores, customs, freight forwarders, and port authorities.&nbsp;• Address operational challenges and client concerns to ensure high service levels and customer satisfaction.&nbsp;• Support commercial teams in optimizing cargo throughput and business growth.&nbsp;• Lead, mentor, and develop operational teams to enhance performance, accountability, and adherence to our clients People and Culture standards and best practices.&nbsp;• Conduct regular training and capability-building initiatives to improve staff competencies.&nbsp;• Foster a high-performance culture focused on teamwork, efficiency, and continuous improvement.&nbsp;• Support workforce planning and resource development to ensure operational readiness.&nbsp; Minimum RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS&nbsp;• Relevant tertiary qualification. Preferably a tertiary qualification in logistics, maritime and port, or process/industrial engineering or a marine qualification&nbsp;EXPERIENCE&nbsp;&nbsp;• Minimum of 8-10 years relevant work experience, in a Ports &amp; terminals environment.&nbsp;• Significant experience in port management, with a proven track record management role overseeing Port &amp; Terminal Operations.&nbsp;• Demonstrated ability to manage and implement changes that elevate operational standards, particularly in challenging environments.&nbsp;• Experience working in diverse and developing countries.&nbsp;• Proven ability to effectively communicate and build trust in multilingual environments, gaining stakeholder buy-in.&nbsp;• Solid experience in successfully managing relationships with various stakeholders, both internal and external.&nbsp;• Experience in environments involving third-party company collaboration.&nbsp;• Experience on vessel/yard planning and yard strategy and preference knowledge of TOS applications such as Navis, Zodiac, etc.&nbsp;• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required.
